Introduction

Biotechnology has been a useful biological field that takes advantage of the availability of current technology to find alternative uses of an organism (or part of an organism) for the betterment of overall well-being, fitness, and quality of life. Today, the advancement of Biotechnology has become an essential part of our progress as a civilisation, which spans various sectors and disciplines involving the integration of knowledge and skills absorbed from disciplines covering Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology and Chemistry.

Why choose this Programme: The Master of Science in Biotechnology Programme is a fresh take in our effort to explore and address the current advances of Biotechnology going into 2021 and beyond. This Programme is revised to be aligned with goals, objectives, learning outcomes and program design based on the 2nd Edition Biotechnology Program Standards from the MQA (MQA Program Standards: Biotechnology Second Edition, 2019) with emphasis on the latest industry developments and needs. This Programme involves the integration of knowledge and skills absorbed from disciplines covering Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics. It also contains Bioentrepreneurship and Technology Transfer components, to produce graduates who can identify current issues relating to copyright and bioethics, with a high entrepreneurial mindset for developing Biotechnology-based industries and businesses. With the advent of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and the growing abundance of data-centric information, our Programme also ensures the inclusion of, and the emphasis on biological big data analyses from various omics technologies and bioinformatics to be in relevant use along with the conventional biotechnological methods.
