Dean: Professor Dato' Dr. Mohd Sofian Azirun The Faculty of Science is among the oldest and most accomplished faculties in the University. Established in 1959 with 4 departments, Department of Botanical, Department of Chemistry, Department of Mathematics and Department of Zoology; currently the Faculty of Science is the biggest faculty in University of Malaya with nearly 3000 undergraduate students, 900 postgraduate students, 220 academic staffs and 250 support staffs.
In addition to functioning as a teaching centre, the Faculty of Science, staffed with locally and internationally feted researchers, serves as the main research centre for Science & Technology in the region. The faculty also manages its very own online scientific journal, the “Malaysian Journal of Science”.
Educational Goals of the University of Malaya 1. Graduates of the University of Malaya will be able to: (a) Demonstrate knowledge and skills in their field of study, appropriate research and professional practices, and the processess of critical thinking, creative thinking, and problem solving.
(b) Use effective methods including contemporary technology to manage information, to achieve diverse professional goals aligned with professional standards and make decisions based on appropriate data and information.

Engage in continuos self-improvement and professional growth, support the professional development of others, and display positive leadership and professional behaviours and disposition for effective practice. 3. Communicate effectively with other professionals, and the community, and project a coherent vision of social resposibilities. 4.
