Master of Biotechnology – Coursework & Research

The Master of Biotechnology Programme was established in 1989 to train graduates from disciplines ranging from biological sciences, chemical engineering and related medical sciences, for a career in the emerging field of biotechnology. The programme has been fine-tuned over the years to focus on the various new technology that will bring biotechnology research in Malaysia to the fore-front. The programme consists of two semesters of course-work followed by a short research project. Laboratory sessions form an important part of the coursework.

Language Requirement

The medium of instruction is in English. International students required to attend and pass a basic course in Bahasa Melayu before the degree can be conferred.

Entry Requirement

Applicants should possess one of following:

1. Bachelor of Science with Hons (CGPA 3.00 and above) or its equivalent in the related field, or

2. Bachelor of Science or its equivalent in related field with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant working experience in the related field,or

3. Any other qualifications approved by the University of Malaya’s Senate time to time.

** International students are required to achieved at least band 6 IELTS or a score of 550 TOEFL if they had obtained their Bachelor’s degree from a university in which the medium of instruction is other than English.
